Some people would go the extra mile to sweep the progress made by this Administration under the rug. Well, they have a reputation of doing that day-in and day-out. In fact, it appears like they have a search engine built to find and flags bad news, articles, quotes and narratives and they put it all together as facts and HEY if some media personality say it, it must be the reality. Bull@!$%#!

...I ask progressives to understand that we have many forces fighting us, Republicans who want to destroy our democracy, Birthers who want to enslave Americans, Corporatist who want to take from average working class Americans and some irresponsible economic and political analysis that are not thoughtful but promote sensationalism that has no substance. Progressives should not allow and reward narrative that works against our own best interest and must stop the sansationalization with this "the sky is falling" meme.

Since the 2008 election of Barack Obama, these kinds of phony articles have had a life of their own in the eyes of some of the disgruntled progressive voters that did not support Barack Obama during the primaries and who held their nose to elect him in the general election. Let's not forget these same people have in the past called or supported statements such as the President is a "rapist", a "piece of @!$%#", hope that he gets "impeached" and "thrown in jail, etc., for pulling this country out of depression and giving it a life that was hanging on a thread. Some of the articles written by these folks is as bad as Huffpost's yellow journalism some progressives seem to embrace instead of shaming it....

What a bunch of hogwash crap is that? So much for a reality based progressive community if we believe this nonsense. What is so baffling is that this crap is all hot air to stir emotions but you will never see any informed ideas on how to come up with a solutions except Torture Wall Street or something like that. The ideological Left wants all the goodies and some but has no realistic strategy or idea on how to get it done by a majority votes in Congress but are hell bent to bash this Administration and our President.

We need to wake up and understand who we are up against.

If we don't already know this then we're toast!

As progressives, I think it is time for us to stand united and let some of these so called progressives know that they need to get their head out of their ass and let them know that the enemy of our big tent progressive agendas are Republicans.

We have to hold on to this if we want to come out on top.

Amen to that PIK. I've had my problems with Obama, but he's infinitely better than the alternative.

It's the difference between sane intellect and crazed stupidity. The GOP is a blackhole of lunacy and moronacity.

The GOP presidential debate last night was a circus of clowns parroting the same talking points. No where was there any substantive ideas or policies.

You might as well reelect the village idiot, W.

Those of you that have read my post know I'm pretty much a moderate, and I'm not so sure of our future. As a manufacturing engineer I have skidded up and move way too many operations offshore to be confident that we are not going to be living with 18-20% real unemployment from here on.

We have to make things to have control of our future in this country.

Until we see our congress eliminate corporate tax incentives to move manufacturing out of the United States, jobs that pay a living wage will keep evaporating, and we will continue to become poorer as a nation.

I don't know about you but there are plenty of people who haven't worked in years because they can't find work. They have lost homes and possessions.

You don't know how that feels until you get there. I'll guarantee they feel like it's the great depression. And with the cost of everything necessary for normal living on the rise more people will be there quickly.

Yes, we are on the verge of another Great Depression. It was just postponed by Odumbo's stimulus plan that went into the pockets of the rich people at all others expense.

We all need to be asking Obama where the 112 bil of that missing stimulus money went to. Stay focused people. Weiner's story is nothing but a distraction to keep you from seeing what our government is doing behind the people's backs and robbing them.

While I agree with your points, that to those without work it feels like a depression, I think the OPs point was that economically speaking, this is not the Great Depression of the 1930's. And it isn't specifically because of steps that were taken after the GD.

There's a lot of hyperbole out there about things, however, I do think there's more than one person tired of hearing about how it is the end times and things will never get better. Things will look up, but it will never be the same as in, say, 06-07 - there will be a new norm.

I have never labeled progressives as my enemy Randy, so there is no apology to be given! I just believe they are mentally incapable of logical thought. Heres an example.

No real big surprise here knuckles /shrug The tolerant party is anything but!!

really ? you can say that with the hypocrisy of the right ?? remember ? showing up with monkey dolls labeled Obama ? Just one example ..

"A prominent South Carolina Republican killed his Facebook page Sunday after being caught likening the First Lady to an escaped gorilla. Commenting on a report posted to Facebook about a gorilla escape at a zoo in Columbia, S.C., Friday, longtime GOP activist Rusty DePass wrote, 'I'm sure it's just one of Michelle's ancestors -- probably harmless.' Busted by South Carolina political blogger Will Folks, DePass told WIS-TV in Columbia, 'I am as sorry as I can be if I offended anyone. The comment was clearly in jest.' Then he added, 'The comment was hers, not mine,' claiming Michelle Obama made a recent remark about humans descending from apes. The Daily News could find no such comment."

Until now, that is. A new survey by the University of Washington Institute for the Study of Ethnicity, Race & Sexuality offers fresh insight into the racial attitudes of Tea Party sympathizers. "The data suggests that people who are Tea Party supporters have a higher probability"—25 percent, to be exact—"of being racially resentful than those who are not Tea Party supporters," says Christopher Parker, who directed the study. "The Tea Party is not just about politics and size of government. The data suggests it may also be about race."

Church Carnival Sets Up Shooter Game With Obama As Target

In Roseto, Pa., a carnival company closed down a shooter game called "Alien Attack," after complaints and news stories that President Obama was one of the targets.

The black "alien leader" is holding a scroll titled "Health Bill" and wearing a presidential seal belt buckle. He also has antennae and a troll doll with a KISS T-shirt on his shoulder.

The owner of the carnival company, Goodtime Amusements, dismissed a complaint, saying the figure is not meant to be Obama.

Republican Presidential Candidate first GOPer to Blame Democrats for Giffords Assasination Attempt

January 2010 - Sharon Angle, teabagger candidate for United States Senate
if this Congress keeps going the way it is, people are really looking toward those Second Amendment remedies....
March 2010 – Sarah Palin, former Alaska Governor and Vice Presidential candidat
"Don't Retreat, Instead - RELOAD!" Pls see my Facebook page.
The Facebook page that had Congresspeople in crosshairs.
April 2010 – Allan West, then teabagger congressional candidate referring to his opponent.

April 2009 – Michael McCaul, republican congressman from Texas
They fought against tyranny and oppressive taxes, do that sound familiar? We're continuing that revolution right here in Austin, Texas today. Thomas Jefferson said the Tree of Liberty will be fed by the blood of tyrants and patriots. You are the modern day patriots.

I want people in Minnesota armed and dangerous on this issue of the energy tax
March 2010 - Steve King, Iowa GOP congressman in a speech to teabaggers
Let's beat that other side to a pulp. Let's take them out, let's chase them down.
October 2010 – Gregg Harper, GOP congressman from Mississippi

I want to come through and choke the man...
February 2010 – Tim Pawlenty, former Governor of Minnesota
We should take a page out of her playbook and take a 9-iron and smash the window out of big government.[...]If you try to take our freedoms, we will fight back.
May 2010 – Brad Goehring, GOP congressional candidate
If I could issue hunting permits, I would officially declare today opening day forliberals. The season would extend through November 2 and have no limits on how many taken as we desperately need to "thin" the herd.
March 2010 – Michael Steele, Republican National Committee Chair
So let's start getting Nancy ready for the firing line this November!
October 2010 - Stephen Broden, teabagger candidate for Congress
"Our nation was founded on violence; the option is on the table,"
"...we have a right to get rid of that government and to get rid of it by any means necessary."

"Two things made this country great: White men & Christianity. The degree these two have diminished is in direct proportion to the corruption and fall of the nation. Every problem that has arisen (sic) can be directly traced back to our departure from God's Law and the disenfranchisement of White men."

"I'm the commander - see, I don't need to explain - I don't need to explain why I say things. That's the interesting thing about being the President. Maybe somebody needs to explain to me why they say something, but I don't feel like I owe anybody an explanation."

Right & Left Violence: Timeline

http://open.salon.com/blog/greg_correll/2011/01/10/right_left_violence_timeline

Jonah Goldberg inspired this guy who shot two people in a progressive church.

Jim D. Adkisson, 58, has been charged with first-degree murder in the Sunday shooting at a Knoxville, Tenn., Unitarian church that left two people dead and five injured. Police said he acted alone.

"It appears that what brought him to this horrible event was his lack of being able to obtain a job, his frustration over that, and his stated hatred for the liberal movement," Knoxville Police Chief Sterling Owen IV said at a press conference Monday.

From his manifesto, which he'd intended to be a suicide note (but the churchgoers tackled him so he couldn't die in a blaze of glory with the police like he's intended):

"Know this if nothing else: This was a hate crime. I hate the damn left-wing liberals. There is a vast left-wing conspiracy in this country & these liberals are working together to attack every decent & honorable institution in the nation, trying to turn this country into a communist state. Shame on them....

"This was a symbolic killing. Who I wanted to kill was every Democrat in the Senate & House, the 100 people in Bernard Goldberg's book. I'd like to kill everyone in the mainstream media. But I know those people were inaccessible to me. I couldn't get to the generals & high ranking officers of the Marxist movement so I went after the foot soldiers, the chicken@!$%# liberals that vote in these traitorous people. Someone had to get the ball rolling. I volunteered. I hope others do the same. It's the only way we can rid America of this cancerous pestilence."

"I thought I'd do something good for this Country Kill Democrats til the cops kill me....Liberals are a pest like termites. Millions of them Each little bite contributes to the downfall of this great nation. The only way we can rid ourselves of this evil is to kill them in the streets. Kill them where they gather. I'd like to encourage other like minded people to do what I've done. If life aint worth living anymore don't just kill yourself. do something for your Country before you go. Go Kill Liberals.

"This president I think has exposed himself over and over again as a guy who has a deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture....I'm not saying he doesn't like white people, I'm saying he has a problem. This guy is, I believe, a racist." –on President Obama, sparking an advertiser exodus from his FOX News show, July 28, 2009 (Source)

2. "I'm thinking about killing Michael Moore, and I'm wondering if I could kill him myself, or if I would need to hire somebody to do it. ... No, I think I could. I think he could be looking me in the eye, you know, and I could just be choking the life out. Is this wrong? I stopped wearing my What Would Jesus -- band -- Do, and I've lost all sense of right and wrong now. I used to be able to say, 'Yeah, I'd kill Michael Moore,' and then I'd see the little band: What Would Jesus Do? And then I'd realize, 'Oh, you wouldn't kill Michael Moore. Or at least you wouldn't choke him to death.' And you know, well, I'm not sure." –responding to the question "What would people do for $50 million?", "The Glenn Beck Program," May 17, 2005 (Source)

6. "I have been nervous about this interview with you because what I feel like saying is, 'Sir, prove to me that you are not working with our enemies. ... And I know you're not. I'm not accusing you of being an enemy, but that's the way I feel, and I think a lot of Americans will feel that way." –interviewing Rep. 7. "Al Gore's not going to be rounding up Jews and exterminating them. It is the same tactic, however. The goal is different. The goal is globalization...And you must silence all dissenting voices. Religious intolerance among conservative Christians:

A few conservative Christians have made statements that categorize other religious groups as evil, degenerate, sub-human and/or hated by God. Some examples are:

- A former Southern Baptist president told two large meetings recently that God does not listen to the prayers of a Jew.
- A Baptist minister in Texas has allegedly called for the mass murder of Wiccans by napalm.
-An Evangelical minister explained that there are two groups in the world: the children of God (those who are saved), and the children of the devil (everyone else).
-Another stated that New Age beliefs are another attempt by Satan to pollute Christianity, promote immorality and foster unethical attitudes.
-Still another stated that non-Christians hate God, love sin, and don't care whether anyone is struggling with sin or not.
-A prominent televangelist called for the round up and extermination of all Wiccans by the U.S. Federal government.
-Buddhism, Hinduism and other Eastern religions have frequently been described as variations of Satanism.

We have not been able to find any comparable statements by mainline or liberal Christians.

I could post the same laundry list of hateful remarks the left has made, but for what? I certainly dont want to piss myself off while collecting all the data. You see here is the fundamental problem with progressive thinking. "Well they did it!" Plain and simple. Progressives are a cancer to our society, it would be wise the liberals of the left marginalize them quickly before they keep another decent liberal out of the white house forever. Can you guess which decent liberal I am refering to?

The reason liberals can "rant" without fear of being labeled terrorists is that their "rants" are justified in the eyes of the media elite. Liberals believe that their beliefs are based on the rational analysis of scientific data. Their opponents' beliefs are based on superstition and prejudice.

more:

"half this country wants to guide our ship of state by a compass. A compass, something that works by science and rationality, and empirical wisdom. And half this country wants to kill a chicken and read the entrails like they used to do in the old Roman Empire." Bill Mahr

"The bombing shows how dangerous it really is to inflame twisted minds with statements that suggest political opponents are enemies." David Brofer in wake of OKC

Liberals can demonize entire classes of people. One of the favorite targets of the liberal elite is the Christian right. According to Michael Weisskopf of the Washington Post, the followers of people like the late Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson "are largely poor, uneducated, and easy to command." These people are not only ignorant, but they are also a definite threat. Chris Matthews has declared, "The group in this country that most resembles the Taliban, ironically, is the religious right." Rosie O'Donnell asserted, "radical Christianity is just as threatening as radical Islam in a country like America." This demonization makes it permissible to say some pretty outlandish things. NPR commentator Andrei Codrescu on his "All Things Considered" segment stated, "The evaporation of four million [people] who believe in this [Christian] crap would leave this world a better place." Actress Megan Fox, admittedly not a representative of the elite intelligentsia, said that if given the chance, she'd urge the fictional character Megatron to murder only the "white trash, hillbilly, anti-gay, super Bible-beating people in Middle America."
"The Republican Party is basically anti-civil rights, anti-immigration, anti-women, and anti-worker." Ted Kennedy
"I hate Republicans and everything they stand for." Howard dean

"[h]ate and hurt are on a roll in America. If what was happening here was happening in South Africa, it'd be called racist apartheid. If it was happening in Germany, we'd call it Nazism. And in Italy, we'd call it fascism. Here we call it conservatism." Jesse Jackson

"The man is on the Court. You know, I hope his wife feeds him lots of eggs and butter and he dies early, like many black men do, of heart disease. Well, that's how I feel. He is an absolutely reprehensible person." Julianne malvauex

"I think he ought to be worried about what's going on in the Good Lord's mind, because if there is retributive justice, he'll get AIDS from a transfusion, or one of his grandchildren will get it." Nina Totenburg about Jesse Helms

"The evil is in the White House at the present time. And that evil is a man who has no care and no concern for the working class of America and future generations of America and who likes to ride a horse. He's cold. He's mean. He's got icewater for blood." Tip Oneil

On "Late Night with David Letterman," Sam Donaldson said, "I think he's [Reagan] going to have to pass three tests. The first is, will he get there, stand in front of the podium, and not drool?" After the audience showed its disapproval, Donaldson responded, "Wait a minute, I don't mean that disrespectfully." Letterman replied, "Well, I think we all took that as flattery, Sam, we did." When Whoopi Goldberg drew a distinction between "rape" and "rape-rape," she possible provided an explanation for liberal "rants." They are not "hate-hate" -- simply "hate."

Liberal pundit and columnist Maureen Dowd referred to "extra chromosome conservatives" in an interview with

Bill Maher's on HBO.

Obama White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel is reported to commonly denigrate persons he disagrees with as "retarded;" he was pointedly criticized for this by Sarah Palin.

Former Vice President, Nobel Prize winner, and senior Democratic Party elder statesman Al Gore mocked children with Down syndrome by referring to his political critics as having "an extra chromosome

On March 3 2009, President Obama ridiculed children with disabilities on Jay Leno's program when answering a question about his bowling prowess. Obama said "It was like Special Olympics."

The extreme liberal website Wonkette carried a series is grotesquely disparaging remarks directed at Trig Palin on his 3rd birthday. Wonkette only relented and removed the content after Papa Johns, Huggies, the Vanguard Group, Holland America Cruises, Nordstrom, Bob Evans Farms, Reliant Energy, DealSwarm and Coldwell Banker joined in a boycott and pulled thier advertising from the site.

  • News24 of South Africa has on its website an obituary for Ronald Reagan entitled, Gay about Reagan's death. The wicked witch is dead'."
  • Multi-billionaire Democratic Party donor George Soros, on CNN, groundlessly compared President George W. Bush, who may suffer from dyslexia,[13] to Nazis.

Democratic Senator Al Franken of Minnesota peddled a book entitled Rush Limbaugh is a Big, Fat, Stupid Idiot, viciously ridiculing a person struggling with obesity and deafness.

In 2007, White House Press Secretary Tony Snow announced his cancer had returned. Commentators on the left-wing Daily Kos website remarked, "the world would be better off without him".

Liberal talk radio host Mike Malloy lashed out at conservative commentator Glenn Beck, a recovering alcoholic, told his radio audiend "I have good news to report. Glenn Beck appears closer to suicide. I'm hoping that he does it on camera....given his alcoholism and his tendencies towards self-destruction, I am only hoping that when Glenn Beck does put a gun to his head and pulls the trigger, that it’s on television, because somebody will capture it on YouTube and it will be the most popular little piece of video for months."

Congressional Democrats wrote into the so-called "health care reform" bill of 2009, the outdated and offensive language, "A hospital or a nursing facility or intermediate-care facility for the mentally retarded . . ." (emphasis added).[17] Families of the learning-disabled, mental health experts, and advocates were outraged at the insensitivity of the proposed language in the new law (a rare example of liberals criticizing their own, albeit hypocritically).

CNN host Piers Morgan suggested Tea Partiers are similar to the mobs that supported national socialist dictator Adolf Hitler.[19] A Quinnipiac poll found the Tea Party is predominently women (55%) who voted for Obama (49%).

New Hampshire Democratic State Representative Timothy Horrigan posted on Facebook his wish Sarah Palin and Levy Johnson would have been onboard the airplane crash that killed former Alaska Senator Ted Stevens. Horrigan wrote "a dead Palin would be even more dangerous than a live one...she is all about her myth" and if she was dead, she wouldn't the target of the liberals attempting to embarrass her

During the 2008 Presidential election campaign season, Barack Obama compared Sarah Palin to a pig.

Liberal "comedian" and "entertainer" Sandra Bernhard made extraordinary offensive, vicious, despicable and threatening remarks to Gov. Sarah Palin during a so-called "comedy performance" before a paying audience.

Dana Milbank hosted a comedy sketch matching various politicians to types of beer; Sarah Palin was matched to "Arctic Devil" and Hillary Clinton to "Mad B****."[27] This caused the feminist group, the Center for New Words, to demand that the sketch's sponsor, the Washington Post, fire everyone involved with it.

Senator John Edwards viciously attacked social commentator Ann Coulter, calling the petite embodiment of women's aspirations for equality in the marketplace of ideas a "she-devil"

'Alternative' comedian Ben Elton's repeated references to Margaret Thatcher as 'a mad old cow', a sexist jibe that belied his supposed pro-feminist stance.

MSNBC talkshow host Lawrence O'Donnell said of Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele, "Michael Steele is dancing for his real master, the RNC."

The tell-all book Game Change reports that Senate Democratic Majority Leader Harry Reid said America would vote for Barack Obama because he was a "light-skinned" African-American "with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one."

Former Democratic President Bill Clinton, when asking Sen. Ted Kennedy for his endorsement of Hillary Clinton, said of Obama: "A few years ago, this guy would have been getting us coffee."[

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has been the relentless target of the most vile liberal hatred since his appointment, being viewed as a "race traitor" on account of his conservative views.

Colin Powell is a respected and popular statesman who rejected offers to be drafted for President in 1996. In an interview, liberal activist Harry Belafonte, who is also African-American, stated, "There are those slaves who lived on the plantation, and there were those slaves who lived in the house. You got the privilege of living in the house if you served the master to exactly the way the master intended to have you serve him. That gave you privilege. Colin Powell is permitted to come into the house of the master, as long as he will serve the master according to the master's dictates."

Howard Dean joked during a speech, “You think the Republican National Committee could get this many people of color in a single room? Only if they had the hotel staff in here.”

Leftist "entertainer" Sandra Bernhard described what in her view is stereotypical of the behavior of African American men in Manhattan.

Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) made racially condescending remarks to the CEO of the National Black Chamber of Commerce during a Senate Environmental and Public Works Committee hearing on Global warming.

Alberto Gonzales, the first Hispanic U.S. Attorney General, was consistently mocked on liberal websites as "Alberto 'Speedy' Gonzales" Upon his retirement, NBC News anchor Matt Lauer called Gonzales "a piñata" for the Democrats.

while the dems not angels ... they are no where near the intolerance of cons !

I only put up a short list.

Behar belittled the canonization of Mother Teresa, saying,

"Mother Teresa had issues. Let's not forget, she didn't really believe 100 percent like these saints who were hearing voices. She didn't hear voices. So the Church said 'okay, she does good deeds. Let's make her a saint.' In the old days it used to be you heard voices. They can't do that anymore."

and how is this intolerance btw ? fyi ?

One of Mother Teresa's volunteers in Calcutta described her "Home for the Dying" as resembling photos of concentration camps such as Belsen. No chairs, just stretcher beds. Virtually no medical care or painkillers beyond aspirin, and a refusal to take a 15-year-old boy to a hospital. Hitchens adds, "Bear in mind that Mother Teresa's global income is more than enough to outfit several first class clinics in Bengal. The decision not to do so... is a deliberate one. The point is not the honest relief of suffering, but the promulgation of a cult based on death and suffering and subjection."

Then Hitchens notes that Mother Teresa "has checked into some of the finest and costliest clinics and hospitals in the West during her bouts with heart trouble and old age."

The author mentions her visit to Haiti and her endorsement of the Duvaliers, the source of much deprivation of the poor in Haiti. Also, her acceptance of stolen money from Charles Keating, "now serving a ten-year sentence for his part in the savings and loan scandal." Keating, a "Catholic fundamentalist", gave Mother Teresa one and a quarter million dollars and "the use of his private jet." During the course of Keating's trial, Mother Teresa wrote Judge Ito asking clemency and asked Ito "to do what Jesus would do."

One of the prosecutors in the trial wrote her telling her "of 17,000 individuals from whom Mr. Keating stole $252,000,000." He added, "You urge Judge Ito to look into his heart--as he sentences Charles Keating--and do what Jesus would do. I submit the same challenge to you. Ask yourself what Jesus would do if he were given the fruits of a crime; what Jesus would do if he were in possession of money that had been stolen; what Jesus would do if he were being exploited by a thief to ease his conscience." The prosecutor asked her to return the money, and offered to put her "in direct contact with the rightful owners of the property now in your possession." This supposed paragon of virtue never replied to his letter.

No one knows what happens to the millions of dollars Mother Teresa receives. There is no accounting and no evidence that she has built a hospital or orphanage that reflects modern health and sanitary conditions.

      Catch22

I think the number of blacks killed under the democrates involvment with the kkk speaks otherwise.

      Huh?

He is probably referring to decades ago when their were a lot of conservative southern Democrats associated with the KKK and ignoring the realignment of the political parties especially in the South where there was a shift of that demographic into the Republican Party. The support of the national Democratic party for civil rights was instrumental in driving many Southern Democrats into the Republican party and the loss of traditionally Democratic solid south into the Republican stronghold today. In more recent history you have candidtates like David Duke from the GOP.

how ever you want to look at the situation Catch, the klan operated from 1865 to roughly 1944 under the protection of the southern democrates. During this time period many if not most of the hate crimes against the black community occured. Meanwhile many politician and supreme court justices aligned with the democrates also were registered klan members. So if you want to ignore that fact and only look at the realignment of the dixicrate that is your interpretation of history. David Duke...really, he was thrown out of the republican party. Whereas scum like Sen Byrd recieved accolaides upon his death, he also filibustered for some 18 hours to keep the civil rights act from passing in the senate.

I think the number of blacks killed under the democrates involvment with the kkk speaks otherwise.

let me correct your error ...

        a bit of history -

showing the difference between the then democrats and now. democrat then didn't mean what it does now. Same holds true for republican. Then republican were all for civil rights and equality. the roles remain the same but the names have changed. the bulk that hated and were/are KKK are still located mainly in the south and vote republican.

In Louisiana the Democratic convention resolved that "we hold this to be a Government of White People, made and to be perpetuated for the exclusive benefit of the White Race, and....that the people of African descent cannot be considered as citizens of the United States." Mississippi and Florida in particular enacted vicious black codes, other southern states (except North Carolina) passed somewhat less severe versions, and President Andrew Johnson did nothing to prevent them from being enforced.
These laws and the violence that erupted against blacks and union supporters in the South outraged Northerners who just a few months before had celebrated victory not only over the Confederacy, but its system of slavery as well. In protest of the defiant Black Codes, Congress refused to seat the new Southern senators and representatives when it reconvened in December 1865 after a long recess. Thus at the moment the fledgling Klan was born in Pulaski, the stage was set for a showdown between Northerners determined not to be cheated out of the fruits of their victory and die-hard Southerners who refused to give up their supremacy over blacks.
Ironically, the increasingly violent activities of the Klan throughout 1866 tended to help prove the argument of Radical Republicans in the North, who wanted harsher measures taken against Southern governments as part of their program to force equal treatment for blacks. Partly as a result of news reports of Klan violence in the South, the Radicals won overwhelming victories in the Congressional elections of 1866

How ever you want to look at it, that was over 65 years ago with most of those responsible no longer Democrats. Those with the greatest sympathy for the KKK are far more likely to be in sypathetic to the GOP or be Republican today.

David Duke...really, he was thrown out of the republican party.

Really, no he wasnt. Not possible to prove a negative in this case, care to prove it?

As for your smears on Byrd, again you rely on ancient and badly distorted history. If you want a more prominent example look to Strom Thurmond, who led segregationists became a Republican and unlike Byrd never renounced his views on segregation.

this is the problem with progressives. You made the argument that republicans are responsible for hate and such, yet you dont want to look at your own party. Deflect by saying well this guy did it. Strom Thurmond. Yes he was a jack ass, like david duke. Lets take a brief look at Duke.

He ran on the democratic ticket in the 1988 presidential primaries didnt get the reception he anticipated, after a short stint in the populist party he registers as a republican. 1990 he ran for senator of louisiana but failed to get the republican endorsement.

1991 against the will and endorsement of the republican party runs for lousiana governor, he lost.

1992 runs for president under republican ticket, the republican party tries to keep him off the ballot.

1999 special election duke runs as republican. the GOp repudiate him again.

Republican Party Chairman Jim Nicholson remarked: "There is no room in the party of Lincoln for a Klansman like David Duke."

However, The democrates allow their own klansman into the party, the son of a bitch filibustered the civil rights act for 18 hours to keep it from passing, with open arms. I found the funeral of that man to be disgusting.

So because the violence happened 65 years it is not relavent? How do you collect data?

You made the argument that republicans are responsible for hate and such, yet you dont want to look at your own party

Actually I try not to engage in such broad sweeping generalizations, though I dont always succeed. Many Republicans are perfectly good people. Most of my comments are directed at the current political leadership.

There is no end of the bad things of both parties. I enjoy history and look at a lot of problems regardless of paries. History however is not the same thing as current events, although knowledge of history is certainly a key factor in understanding the present.

So because the violence happened 65 years it is not relavent? How do you collect data?

Sure its relevant to a lot of things. Not particularly relevant however to the current status of the Democratic party given the historic shift described above. Those people who supported the KKK 65 years ago dont have much in common with the party today beyond the shared name.

Does this mean that all Democrats are saints and all Republicans are bigots? Of course not. However, I am trying to focus on what the policies being put forward to today and how they shape our society now. The Republican party has some great history - for example if I had to pick a msjor party in 1860 I would pick the Republicans. Times have changed since then and where the parties stand in realtion to each other have changed dramatically.

PowerisKnowledge, You are right about what the attitude should be and your desire to have people remain vigilante in seeing the whole picture. But there is a buzz in the air that perpetuates fear. There is an understanding that those who can will make things as bad as possible if they believe that it will hurt the President. Loyalty to Party has swallowed loyalty to Country and has found itself a most ferocious appetite.

From this grows the ability to drive the wedge of division and maintain our dislikes of each other. An entire political GrOuP has been bought and paid for and won't even buck against the fracturing of itself and those that are left seem to be standing by the wayside watching in awe. We are becoming a scared Nation and what is even worse not able to identify the real cause of that fear.

For we need not be afraid of ourselves , our mistakes or our shortcomings and we wouldn't be if we just would take our heads from the sand and realize that from this point onward nothing will be by happenstance.

If our misery and economic plight worsens it will be man made and intentional and nothing that can't be undone. But we must rid ourselves of those that carry out this agenda by maintaing the ability to find value in each other and our vote. Turn our anger and frustration outward , in the right direction and within the resound of quiet request, together.

We not only owe it to ourselves, our children and grandchildren but we owe it to this Nation to rid the political arena from as many of these self serving jackals as possible. For the sake of the Republican Party which soon will no longer exist we need to do what they are incapable of doing, cleanse them of the uncaring insanity they have become and by doing so send a message to any inept that be left that only our true champions are to be welcome onto the field of politics from both sides of the aisle.

Followed with real ideas, sincere intentions , campaign reform and the commitment to never fall asleep at the voting booth ever again, there is nothing broken here that can't be fixed.

But we cannot waste anymore time with people who only talk but can't walk the walk ; for two steps forward and one step back is not really progress.............

There is so much Bull$h!t out there that needs to be put to rest. Last nights debate the same old policies were touted that got us into this mess and will continue to take us over the cliff and Enough of the same old misinform Obama Bashing.

This week Romney came out with an ad mocking Obama as saying The People were bumps in the Road. Now we know that is not what Obama was saying. Bumps in the roads would be the Obstruction and the Lies and Misinformation that has been put out there regarding the economy, jobs, healthcare reform, the fixes, and we are on the verge of great depression. Romney accuses Obama of not knowing how to create jobs and fix the economy. What the media has not done is question his claims and point out Romney's Record on these issues. They tout that he is a successful Businessman. But he is a destroyer of jobs, possibily committed voter fraud, flipflopper, and a Liar.

As governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney had one of the worst job-creation records in the country – ranked 47th out of 50 states in job creation –gaining only 0.9 percent in payroll jobs during his term. He knows what to do? Mitt Romney led Bain Capital to close American factories and cause hundreds of layoffs, stripping them of their assets, shipping them over seas, but not before he pocketed huge fees more than $100 million. U.S. factories were closed and filed bankruptcy, causing hundreds of layoffs, or pocketed huge fees shortly before companies collapsed. Mitt Romney said that he would sign the Ryan Republican plan that would end the Medicare seniors rely on. Mitt Romney first supported the Recovery Act, but now claims that it made the economy worse. Mitt Romney called for letting Detroit go bankrupt, but now claims credit for the auto industry’s turnaround. Many of these things sound like the same old types of republican policies that got us into this mess. A vote for Romney would be be like going two steps backwards.

Bad data for a few months and everyone forgets that there were real causes like the earthqauke in Japan, a big series of US bad weather, flooding of the Mississippi river, et. al. Gee, no wonder people did not go house shopping or visit the mall or look for jobs. But this type of slow down should lead to new demand as people start to rebuild, plant crops, buy new cars, etc.

"We have nothing to fear but fear itself." Perhaps we should add, "We have nothing to fear but fear mongers and hate mongers."

So then the recession that people blame Bush for was partly caused by Katrina, 9/11 and other crisises right?

Does going around the country telling people that Republicans want to end medicare constitue "fear mongering"?

I am not aware of any objective observer seeing Katrina and 9/11 as significant contributors to the Great Recession of 2007. What other crisises are you referring to? The collapse of the housing, financial and automotive sectors?

Why the 2007 Recession is widely seen as the worst in US history.

The current economic climate is frustrating, and we may end up in a double dip recession, but its not nearly as bad as it was in 2008.

83,000 Private sector Jobs created last month is a far cry better than the Average -69.000 net jobs a month lost during Bush#2, better than Bush#1 avg 52,000 jobs per mo. .

GDP Growth a respectable 2.3% as opposed to -6.5% under 2008Q4 and projected to go over 3% in the next 1/2 of the year and following year... Gas prices falling....this is the GOOPers worst nightmare who are doing everything in their power to drive down confidence and stymie demand and growth in the house...

There's another storm coming down the pipe and its going to make the one in 2008 look very mild in comparison. As for progressives, people are starting to wake up to what they really represent. As Americans learn more about UN Agenda 21 and what that really means for them, they will turn against you in droves... even some Democrats are starting to realize their mistakes.. http://www.democratsagainstunagenda21.com/

The liberals plan of wealth distribution is working really good. Chinas economy is growing at a rate of nine percent and their middle class is growing at an unprecedented rate. Four more years of Obama and we will all be riding bicycles and the Chinese will all be driving hummers.

Chinas stimulus was 10% of their GDP that why they are growing at 8% , and American companies aren't complaining about it as they have benefited handsomely from it. and that cheap slave labor repubgs want to drag us wages to. Repubgs killed legislation to stop subsidizing companies to outsource. the Greedy american corporate class made China the power it is today, and Bush borrowed a trillion from them before Obma stepped into office. American exports have increased 22% in the last 2 years, after declining steadily after Germany and China were allowed to surpass us in the aughts.

Bush and the GOP led us into the economic crisis and that's what their leadership means, failure.

When Bush entered office he inherited the Clinton balanced budget, a surplus, a booming economy and a great job market.

By the time Bush and the GOP got done after 8 years; America ended up with nothing.

The "great depression" was the loss of the balanced budget at the hands of the GOP, the "great depression" was the loss of the surplus spent by the GOP, the "great depression" was the loss of a previously booming economy under the GOP, and the "great depression" was the loss of jobs during 8 years of the GOP, the GOP created a huge deficit they handed over after being in power for 8 years.

The last 2 years the GOP has done nothing but complain and blame, vote no, obstruct, delay, and cut jobs.

The GOP jobs plan isn't creating jobs, it is cutting jobs.

The GOP and the GOP "tea party" went in and begain immediately cutting jobs.

The GOP put all unionized jobs on the chopping block instead of their own benefits or "pork barrel" projects.

The GOP and GOP "tea party" candidates cuts government public sector jobs, unionized jobs like teachers, nurses, police and firefighters.

The GOP never even looks at other cuts, just GOP job cuts, benefit cuts, cuts to Medicare.

By the time the GOP hacks away at the already terrible economy they handed over their destruction of the economy will be complete except they will have added millions of job losses to the jobs they already lost for America when they had 8 years.
