(Notice: I didn’t specify which party. Compared to the vast spectrum of possible politics from left to right, which encompasses such ideologies as communism, socialism, left libertarianism, right libertarianism, fascism, etc., the Dems and Reps are more similar than different.)

Until there’s a revolution we’re stuck with these jokers. But that doesn’t mean we have to pay attention.

Better Careful

A two-party system is compatible with democracy, PIK. Why wouldn't it be? What's incompatible with democracy is corruption. Our government is corrupt. Our electoral system is broken. Adding, or subtracting, political parties in a corrupt system does nothing to change that system.

Our system is so corrupt that corruption has become routine and accepted. Indeed, it's been made legal by Congress and the Supreme Court. Attempts to simply slow the advance of corruption have been dealt with by the corrupt.

Not only is democracy incompatible with corruption, but capitalism is, too. Prosperity is also incompatible with corruption. Study any government in world history where corruption was more powerful in the daily affairs than democracy and you'll find a hopeless and bitter people, a poor people, a stagnant or declining economy, meaningless elections, curtailment of civil liberties, and political oppression. The USA is on they way down. We either rid ourselves of a corrupt system, or lose our democracy, freedom, and any chance at prosperity.

Our system is broken. What are we going to do about it? What can we possibly do about it? We don't deserve corruption and we didn't ask for it. Now that we have it there seems little we can do to rid ourselves of it. You mention revolution; it's most likely going to come to that, but that's decades away. Moving away is the most practical option.

Responding to propaganda with letters, emails and phone calls will help along with voting against the people that play party politics.

The press kept water gate in front of us until something was done, you couldn't change the channel or get away from the repetitious story of water gate until something was done.

I am in favor of outlawing political "parties" entirely. Everybody must run on their record, their values and their opinions.

That's something you and I both can agree on, kjmgirl.

IMO this country is not run by the politicians, but by the political parties. It's getting to the point that we're not very far away from the USSR where only one party was "legal" (so we have two, big deal) and everything was decided by that party and no dissenting opinion was allowed.

Well if you want to go that route, 58rose, then perhaps it is the rich of OTHER countries who run the USA. Case in point - the Bilderberg Group who just met in Switzerland last week. You may recall that shortly after they met with Hillary and Obama, Hillary dropped out of the campaign and Obama was elected.

kjmgirl, I'd like to learn more about this, please provide links because I wasn't aware this was the reason Clinton dropped out of the campaign.

      power:

Exactly backwards. Only a two-party system is capable of delivering democratic legitimacy.

The answer is not "change the system so my views are reflected, or more fully reflected," the answer is "change one of the parties so my views are reflected or more fully reflected."

Both parties more fully reflect the views of lobbyists. The system needs to change to take away the power of lobbyists and corporations. The two party system is broken.

      Becks:

Then pick the party whose lobbyists marginally reflect your views and work to change that party to more closely reflect your views.

The two party system is broken.

That might even be true. All I'm saying is that the fix is not systemic, it's partisan.
