War Is A Racket is an in your face kick-ass book exposing politicians thirst for wars-for-profit.

Quotes worth committing to memory:

At least 21,000 new millionaires and billionaires were made in the United States during the World War. That many admitted their huge blood gains in their income tax returns. How many other war millionaires falsified their income tax returns no one knows.

How many of these war millionaires shouldered a rifle? How many of them dug a trench? How many of them knew what it meant to go hungry in a rat-infested dugout? How many of them spent sleepless, frightened nights, ducking shells and shrapnel and machine gun bullets? How many of them parried the bayonet thrust of an enemy? How many of them were wounded or killed in Battle?

Out of war nations acquired additional territory, if they are victorious. They just take it. This newly acquired territory promptly is exploited by the few—the self-same few who wrung dollars out of blood in the war. The general public shoulders the bill. p. 24

Boys with a normal viewpoint were taken out of the fields and offices and factories and classrooms and put into the ranks. There they were remolded; they were made over; they were made to “about face”’ to regard murder as the order of the day. They were put shoulder to shoulder and, through mass psychology, they were entirely changed. We used them for a couple of years and trained them to think nothing at all of killing or being killed. p. 33

Beautiful ideals were painted for our boys who were sent out to die. This was the “war to end wars.” This was the war to make the world safe for democracy.” No one told them that dollars and cents were the real reason. No one mentioned to them, as they marched away, that their going and their dying would mean huge war profits. No one told these American soldiers that they might be shot down by bullets made by their own brothers here. No one told them that the ships on which they were going to cross might be torpedoed by submarines built with United States patents. They were just told it was to be a “glorious adventure.” p. 35

To summarize: Three steps must be taken to smash the war racket. We must take the profit out of war. We must permit the youth of the land who would bear arms to decide whether or not there should be war. We must limit our military forces to home defense purposes. p. 42

An enlightening read brilliantly written.

I spent 33 years in the Marines, most of my time being a high-class muscle man for big business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer for Capitalism.--Brigadier General Smedley D. Butler.

Thanks. I'm a fan of ol Smedley and "War is a Racket".

Add Mark Twain's "War Prayer" to the mix for a rich protein stew.

besta atcha.....

War makes big money for the Military Industrial Complex. They build the weapons and we test them and than they sell them to any one who has the money to buy them.

They sure do and I the profiteers, most likely, place their earnings in off shore accounts. The money they make does not benefit the U.S.

Totally believable. Especially when the troops returning from the wars are warned repeatedly not to talk about what went on at the risk of being charged personally for war crimes. Or, at least from the latest spate of wars and warriors. Wouldn't surprise me a bit for the NRA to be a front for the munitions complex people either.

Nor is it a surprise for most of these movements to start on the evangelical circuit. Those poor dupes are required to check their intellect at the door and embrace what they call "faith", but not in something higher than the pulpit as they claim to be voicing God's preferences. That is where the old testament has such high esteem. Emotions are far easier to manipulate than intellect.

Lol, didn't know I had that button. Apologies if I got off track.

Great comment Opinion8ed. It's really sad how the politicians/military lie to our children to get them to participate in war crimes then threatened them if they don't want to participate.
