The Georgia Dept. of Agriculture has announced Iams ProActive Health Cat and Kitten Food has been recalled, made by Proctor & Gamble. The company says says 3-ounce and 5.5 ounce cans with the dates 9/2011 to 6/2012 stamped on the bottom may contain low levels of thiamine, Vitamin B1.

A cat with a thiamine deficiency may show loss of appetite, salivation, vomiting and weight loss. In worst cases, the cat may show a downward curving of the neck, a wobbly gait, falling, circling and seizures. If your cat has any of these symptoms, call your veterinarian.

I've been feeding my Buddy Fancy Feast and Purina cat chow. I give him the Fancy Feast just every other day or so just for the variety.

Any advice for fur balls? He seems to be having a problem with them lately.

They make a medicine for that...but, a little fish oil or EEVO on his food might help, also!

And, brush him regularly!

RACHEL, thank you. I've got the EEVO and I'll give it a try, but he hates the brush. He tries to bite it when ever I try to use it.

Okay- this will sound weird, but, a rubber glove-like the kind to do dishes-dampened and rub it over his body...like you are petting him! It takes hair off of furniture too!

WOW!!! You should start a column on feline health and care. I do have rubber gloves that I use for his litter box and I'll give them a try.

Again, thank you.
