In watching TV news accounts of the recent American disasters – a massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, a fatal mine explosion in West Virginia, continuing economic fallout from Wall Street excesses, worsening fears about the impact of the massive U.S. debt – I was struck by the absence of one name: George W. Bush.

By 1999, the ex-president’s oldest son, Texas Gov. George W. Bush, was eager to exploit Bill Clinton’s sexual misconduct by making a promise to “restore honor and dignity to the White House.” According to polls, one of George W. Bush’s greatest political assets was the public perception that his parents operated with high moral standards and that one could expect the same from their son.

After getting into the White House, Bush-43’s idea of elevating presidential morality was to replace Clinton’s sexual escapades in the Oval Office pantry with sweetheart deals for the oil-and-coal industries, aggressive wars justified under false pretenses, and his top aides orchestrating the torture of naked Muslim detainees held in secret prisons.

Many of Clinton’s public policies also were reversed. Over the eight years, Bush-43 implemented massive tax cuts weighted toward the wealthy, a move that gashed back open the federal deficit. He also pushed “self-regulation” for key industries, especially his old friends in the oil business.

The entire Bush Clan have shown themselves to be not only enemies of the have nots and the have little but enemies of America. The Bush Clan, collectively, have help destroy America to increase the wealth of their Clan and to increase the wealth of their friends and be damn all others!

Why are the American people allowing them to get off without standing before a judge and jury?

And, when Bush-43 bungled the pre-9/11 warnings (including advice from Clinton advisers about the danger posed by al-Qaeda), the Right responded by blaming Clinton. Posters appeared showing the burning Twin Towers over the word’s “Clinton’s Legacy.”

And let's not forget the media's role in this.

The mainstream news media also sensed there was no point in criticizing Bush-43 or the Republicans. When the Republicans slapped away Obama’s hand as he tried to reach across the aisle, the media framed the story as Obama’s “failure” to live up to his promise to change the tone in Washington.

We can attribute a lot of what's happening to the media and their omission of truth to gain ratings and to retain their jobs thus they lack integrity. What is reported should be taken with a grain of salt. What the media reports should be considered lies until proven truthful. The media has proven not to be truthworthy.

The President finds himself with few defenders in the mainstream media, since journalists recognize where their career bread is buttered. Since the bulk of the new media jobs are at places like Fox News and in the right-wing blogosphere, it makes no sense to offend potential future employers.

For journalists trying to hang on to their mainstream jobs, the best bet is to join the herd as it stampedes toward Obama.

And, if my reading of the under-funded Left media is correct, Obama can’t count on much help there either, certainly not the way Bush knew that Fox News and Rush Limbaugh always had his back.

And that's sad. The party of wealth can count on the media defending their mishaps and crimes and promoting their shameful greatness. That goes to show how stupid Americans are to allow this.

Who knows? In a couple of years, there might be a media-generated nostalgia for George W. Bush, much as there was for his father. Then, Jeb – the so-called “smart brother” – might stand a chance as a bridge between the far-right Republicans and the more establishment brand.

And the average American will fall for this.

Indeed, as the American political process grows even more addle-brained, we might be seeing the start of a recurring cycle: a member of the Bush family screws things up; the Democrats eventually take control but don’t demand accountability; the media quickly shifts the blame for the problems to the Democrats; the Republicans become agents of change; and the next Bush family member becomes president to get things back on track.

And addle-brained the American people can be! The teabaggers and tea party confirms this.

One might call that prospect a truly vicious cycle.

Yes, one might call that the prospect a truly vicious cycle but I prefer to call it, America! Land of the Stupid if Americans allow another Bush to become president.

The possibility is always there if democrats sit out the November elections. I've been encouraging those I know in the various states to get pissed off and get involved to help get the democrats in office because if people don't get involved, we don't have a chance of getting rid of the party of no or their teabaggers candidates..

Agree 100% we have to keep energized and engaged or we will be run over. Now is not the time to get dissilusioned or stand back but rather it's time to kick ass and take names. Let's make this a Historic Mid Terme Election and get MORE Democrats elected to Congress, the Governors and the State Legislatures. We also need to work hard at taking control of local government like the School Boards, County and City Governments, the same methods the religious right used in their efforts to gain political power.

I live in Florida and as a democrat there are any number of things I did not like about Jeb Bush. He is a big business republican but he dose know how to Handel a problem like a Hurricane. He would make a better president than GWB.

But having said that if you believe that he will act any differently than republicans do then you are mistaken. He may not push there social agenda. And I can not see him getting the support of the right wing of the republican party.

In every other way he is like his father and out of touch with the average people and pro-big business at the expense of everything I would support as a democrat. I am sure conservatives would say that is good but they no longer have much say in the increasingly right wing politic of there party. It is the tea party/republicans that will push him to the right just as they did McCain.

As some one said or maybe it was me the party I was once for a short time has pushed me to the left and they have left me. I can not subscribed to there beliefs any more and maybe I never did because every thing they are for I am against. Name it from Gay rights to a Woman's right to decide if having a child or not and lack of support for public education to there belief that we can dictate to the world that they are either for us or they are against us and we can use Military force to compel compliance. Oh did I forget they are for deregulation of business and well you name it.

I voted for President Obama and I am not willing to turn the clock back and let them take the country back.

Inconsistent tense: present progressive and simple past. You should also have a comma after the word "Well."

Three misspellings in one six word sentence

The phrase "six word," as you have used it here, is a compound noun and requires a hyphen between "six" and "word.".

              Sorry, its my pet peeve.

"its" as you have used it here is a contraction of "it is" and requires an apostrophe.

Listen to powerisknowledge, and either take your pet peeve somewhere else before you make a complete ass of yourself, or comment on the substance of the thread.

Whether or not Jeb Bush becomes POTUS depends on how secure the electronic voting machines are.

It's common knowledge that, GW became POTUS (twice) by way of illegal tampering with voting machines and voting protocols.

There is no reason that, given the opportunity, the functionaries who committed these crimes for GW won't commit them for Jeb.

Don't forget that the Bush family is a siginificant criminal dynasty, having participated in assassinations, massive theft of national wealth, treason, support of the Nazis, genocide, torture and drug running.

We must never assess the Bush family's motivation and behavior based on any normal and common sense of decency and humanity.

If Jeb Bush is required to be president to further the criminal Bush family agenda, then there is a very good chance that he will become president.

Something else we must never forget is The Bush family and the S&L Scandal.

What is important to note about the S&L scandal is that it was the largest theft in the history of the world and US tax payers are who was robbed.

Bush Jr. pulled the same crimes on the U.S. economy as Bush Sr. but he let his son Neil Bush take hold of the reins. To me it looks like the Bush family is purposely trying to destroy America! Could it be that they are the new faces of the Nazi Party?

There are lots of things about the Bush Family that NEED to be remembered, including some that have been hushed up, or never properly connected to what they really mean. These people look at themselves in dynastic terms, rather than as citizens like the rest of us. What they really are is sociopaths.

In light of the serious travesty that both Bush's made of the Presidency during their tenures, no Bush should be permitted to seek the office ever again.

Will there be a return of the Florida Hanging Chad fiasco? Will the democratic candidate have the cojones to challenge all the way up the line? Voting machines, hmm, yep there is certainly a tampering app to be exploited there. Yes, Jeb could become president; and maybe there will be a Popular Revolution immediately following.

It should also be noted that shortly after news of Neil Bush’s involvement in the S&L scandal hit the press his father, George Bush Sr., announced the Desert Storm campaign in Iraq, which subsequently had the result of making Neil’s name quickly fade from the headlines. In addition, while Neil Bush's divorce proceeding were exposing more backroom Bush dealings, America was once again bombarded with war propaganda for Operation Iraq Freedom.

                  The lowdown criminal bastards!

Pretty much sums up the Bush clan, and the real viscious one of the bunch is Mama Barbara.

Barbara Bush and Nancy Reagan were real terrors. A couple of my female friends said how both women could have furthered the cause of the women's movement but didn't. I noticed how they didn't do much to help low income children and homeless families either. And Nancy Reagan's "Just Say No" campaign was laughable. How do you tell kids to just say no to peer pressure?

The Bush clan has had their hands on the political controls of countries since the 1930's with Prescott Bush and his Nazi ties. (Why do I need to capitalize "nazi"? damn spell checker). And all the while people have been screaming about the "Rockefellers and Rotchildes", when the real menace was The Shrub.

Possibly he could be it's still anyone's race. Though to see Hillary and Jeb fighting it off for
President whew that will be one scary duel.

Education in Florida though from what I've heard though is Jeb's weak point. Who knows we still got a couple of years before we see another President.

the american people may have been asleep at the brain when they voted to have come up with SCUMBAMA. but i don't think there would be enough people with that big a lack of intelligence to vote in another bushie after what we had with dubya.

Rarely do I fail to see mistakes in grammar or spelling. Proper use is a sign of intelligence. All of Ups grammar comments are optional uses with the exception of one. I concede that my use of "its" should have been "it's." That alone was an egregious error on my part.

With regard to your confusing of compound noun/compound adjective, that was unforgivable, however, your in-depth knowledge is admired.

Please carry on with your liberal silliness and name calling.

OK, I know it's wrong to pimp one's self on other peoples seeds, but with what has transpired concerning spelling and grammar, I have no choice. Could you people please go to my column and read the riveting essay, written in Bushes' own words, and transcribed by yours truly. The piece is entitled, "I scooped GQ,,,,,". It was written by "the most brilliant man I've ever met", and should shed some light on whether or not spelling and grammar are a sign of intelligence.

Provide a link, AlanA. I don't have a problem with Viners providing references using their articles/seeds when they are topic related.
