Who are the Wampanoag?

The Wampanoag are one of many Nations of people all over North America who were here long before any Europeans arrived, and have survived until today. Many people use the word "Indian" to describe us, but we would prefer to be called Native People.

Today the Earth has changed so much because many people are not respecting Mother Earth. We as the Wampanoag cannot live like our ancestors. We adapt but still continue to live in the way of the People of the First Light.

Hi PowerIsKnowledge, Native People it is. I like that as well. I find the history and customs so fascinating. The school that my son attended years ago always assigns the 6th graders a big project on the Native People. It was so fascinating and I still remember how we both enjoyed it. My grandson will be doing his next year so hopefully I can be his helper. We watched the video( that you had linked on another seed) together and it held his attention even though it was quite long.

Our name, Wampanoag , means People of the First Light.

How cool is that.;~)
