(June 21, 2009) - Two young, Southern members of the Congressional Black Caucus are making notable progress in their quest for statewide offices.

U.S. Reps. Artur Davis (D-Ala.) and Kendrick Meek (D-Fla.) are running in their states' primaries in 2010 to become governor of Alabama and U.S. senator from Florida, respectively. Davis, 41, is seeking to replace Republican Bob Riley in the statehouse in Montgomery while Meek, 42, is after the seat of Sen. Mel Martinez (R-Fla.).

CoH in effect!

“I don’t think you can judge someone after only 100 days. That said, he’s accomplished more in his first quarter than most presidents achieve in their entire first term.

I know why we always judge a president's first 100 days, but it seems like not enough time in this case. There is so much that needs to be done. I'm not entirely happy with all Obama's positions, but he has jumped in with both feet. He deserves a lot of credit for that. A little more cooperation would be helpful, but I won't hold my breath.

Personally, I think this time around, we should be looking at the American people's first 100 days. Have we embraced our new president? Have we given him a real chance to work on all the things wrong with this country? Have we been thoughtful in our opposition? Some of us get an A. Others? They're failing this country.

Thanks Eddie. I don't suppose this thread will stay friendly for long though.

    The First 100 Days

This was once the 'land of plenty'
Where everyone shared a common theme.
If you finished school and worked real hard,
You held a key to the 'American Dream'

A progressive wind is reshaping our lives.
    Imposing economic redistribution
of wealth from haves to have-nots.
So we can all receive absolution.

The cost of fuel is taking a hike
Must I walk to work or ride a bike?
Should we leave Iraq in turmoil
and bring Gitmo detainees to our shore?

    Uncle Sam buys private corporations
while we all sink deeper in debt.
If our planet is truly heating up,
Why can I not get warm as yet?

Why don't they listen when we knock at the door
With questions on famine, disease and war?
Can't they look and see that we need?
Stop a world in terror from choking on it's greed!

This was a land of plenty before the Europeans arrived taking away the common theme from the original settlers of America. The Europeans stole people from other countries and made them slaves. The American Dream was not for the many but for the few.

Redistribution may be what is needed to get us back on track. The haves are the reason we have have-nots.

Walking and riding a bike gives the body the exercise it needs. Our elected officials will decide what to do about Iraq and Gitmo.

while we all sink deeper in debt.
If our planet is truly heating up,

What private corporations has Uncle Sam bought? We all are responsible for climate change.

Why don't they listen when we knock at the door
With questions on famine, disease and war?
Can't they look and see that we need?
Stop a world in terror from choking on it's greed!

Again, we are responsible for what has happened. Had we not been following our personal greed we would have had our hands on the pulse and demanded leadership from our elected officials--we opened the barn door. We rely too much on others to do for us what we can do for ourselves. We can stop a world from choking on it's greed by living within our means. We must start with the man in the mirror. If you rely on credit cards rather than debit cards then you're part of the problem.
