Summary: Fox News hosts and contributors have criticized President Obama for shaking hands with Hugo Chavez, but a Media Matters search of the Nexis database found no examples in 2002 of Fox News personalities criticizing President Bush's handshake with Uzbekistani President Islam Karimov, whose government the State Department has condemned for human rights abuses.

But a Media Matters for America search* of the Nexis database found no examples in 2002 of Fox News personalities criticizing President Bush's handshake with Uzbekistani President Islam Karimov, which took place during a White House photo op in March of that year.

"Uzbekistan is an authoritarian state with limited civil rights" where police and the National Security Service (NSS) -- identified as "the former KGB" -- "committed a number of killings of prisoners in custody."

It further noted, "Although the law prohibits these practices, both police and the NSS routinely tortured, beat, and otherwise mistreated detainees to obtain confessions, which they then used to incriminate the detainees.

Police also used suffocation, electric shock, rape, and other sexual abuse."

No, and there are likely no examples to be found. Has FoxNews ever really criticized President Bush for anything? It's not like they're not in the business of equal time, fairness, or impartiality.

Another reason why Fox News wouldn't dare call attention to President Karimov and Uzbekistan's human right abuses, during the meeting with President Bush, is that they so perfectly parallel the Bush administrations human rights violations.

And Fox continues to confirm this.

Say what you will about Olbermann and MSNBC, both Olbermann and Maddow do and will call out Dems when they feel they are in the wrong. Can anyone imagine Beck or O'Reilly calling any Repub out?

JonesGirl:

You are correct in your comment re Olbermann. A few nights ago he really lambasted Obama on the non-prosecution of Bush Admin torturers!

This was a link on another seed here. It shows how childish Fox News really is.
