Cleaning The Barbeque

So I'm using my bbq this weekend... so I thought I'll clean it up..

I have know there are bees coming from under the cover so I thought I'd kill them, thought I'll suffocate/smoke them out. I thought I was pretty smart hehehe designed to be easily manoevered under the cover of darkness...so then I release the weapon of buzz destruction..

OMFG! the sound from under the cover was incredible!!! You could hear it 3m away easy...

Then I ran like the clappers....

Coming back few mins later to see the death toll...Was at least 20mm deep mass grave.

I continued to remove the cover and to light the bbq to give it a clean when I noticed some fatty looking substance on the top of the side shelf thing.... Bit weird.. I clean it before I put it away for winter and no way was there fat there so I begun to wonder......

NO..... it can't be could it?

I slowly removed the rest of the cover only to find the HQ.

AND ON ANOTHER NOTE

We think the queen flew away.... either that or a small child has wings and has been living in the hive coz that thing was huge!

OMG...that is amazing!  How long was your cover on your grill?

Use the grill more often and this wouldn't happen!!

Sorry I should have been more clear. I received this as an email from someone I know whose neighbor sent it to them. This is the neighbor's grill.

Cool. Any neighborhood beekeeper would be glad to stop by and rescue the hive and bees if it ever happens again!

George:  I just recently saw a new show on, oh, what network was it?  DIY.  Called Renovation Realities.  A woman and her husband wanted to build a deck, but in the process, they discovered a huge beehive under their steps (which they demolished and was how they came upon the giant beehive).

Horrendous.  And don't get me wrong--but I wouldn't want that kind of mess anywhere in my home.

Can be scary. My middle daughter sat on a downed tree when she was little, but it was full of bees inside and they attacked her. We rushed her off to the ER, but she was OK. Had over a hundred stings. Since then, through the years, we always buy her bee gifts. Her name is Debbie, (Deb-Bee!). She's a sweetie.

Pity, a hive that size... How much is a hive worth as an asset?  Any beekeepers here?

Original source.  Your article is a bit misleading.

Lauhal:  thanks for the info.  However, PIK did make it clear that it was an email he received...

    Cheers, -L

I have the followup story, where they tracked down the guy involved, seeded somewhere in the distant past.

It's Australian, I'd already figured that one by the bug spray. He didn't quite realise how many bees had set up camp in his barbecue, otherwise he would have called in a beekeeper to deal with it.

In the comments...not in the article, as is usual practice.

Oh!  Well, that's ok, methinks.  I don't think PIK was meant for the article to be taken as PIK's own experience...  But yes, it could have been made clear(er) in the article.

      Oy.

Chris gets the credit--he posted the same thing way back on the 24th of November....

*geez, PIK, I guess you've been a few months late, and several dollars short!*  ;o
